Install it

Windows

  1. 1Open the downloaded Claviq-Hotel-Setup file.
  2. 2If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. Early versions aren't signed with Microsoft yet.
  3. 3Follow the installer. It installs for your Windows user only, so it doesn't need an administrator password.
  4. 4Open Claviq Hotel from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut.

Mac

  1. 1Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag Claviq Hotel into Applications.
  2. 2Open Claviq Hotel from Applications. macOS will say it can't check the app for malicious software. Early versions aren't notarized by Apple yet.
  3. 3Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to Claviq Hotel. Enter your Mac password.
  4. 4Claviq Hotel opens. You only need to do this once.

Only download Claviq Hotel from this page. Signed versions that install without these warnings are on the way.

The first time you open it

    Choose the main computer

    On the computer that will hold the hotel's data (usually the front desk), choose "This is the main computer".

  2. 2

    Name your hotel and create the admin

    The email is just your login; it doesn't need to be a real mailbox.

  3. 3

    Print your two keys

    The recovery key resets a forgotten password. The backup key opens your backups on another computer. Keep the sheet somewhere safe.

  4. 4

    Other computers

    Install Claviq on them and choose "Another computer". On the main computer, turn on LAN mode in Settings → Network and approve each one.

Memory
4 GB RAM; 8 GB recommended for the main computer
Disk space
1 GB for the app and data, plus room for backups (2 GB or more free)
Network
Only needed to connect several computers: a normal office Wi-Fi or cable network. Keep staff computers off the guest Wi-Fi.
